Development Control Officer

We are currently recruiting for a Major Public body as part of nation- wide contract. They seek to hire a Development Control Officer within their Network Planning team, on a long term, temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity to gain field experience with a highly reputable employer on a long term temporary contract with the chances of both an extension and internal permanent opportunities.
Working hours: Monday to Friday (Flexi time)
Salary: £28,000
Location: Rathkeltair House Downpatrick
The position is temporary with an estimated duration of 12 months. Please note that this is purely an estimated duration.
Key Responsibilities
Candidates will be responsible for the following duties:
· Assess and respond to planning application consultations on access, movement and parking.
· Visit sites on a periodic basis to determine if development proposals are deliverable.
· Determine if development roads are in accordance with Creating Places – Achieving quality in residential environments.
· Prepare and process DfI Roads adoption drawings as required.
· Meet with council planners, applicants, architects, developers and elected representatives as required.
· Draft replies to letters, e-mails and prepare statistics as required.
· General office duties, filing etc.
· Input of information to database.
Selection Criteria
Candidates must clearly identify their skills/experience in the following areas on their application:
At least a Level 3 BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Civil Engineering or Building Studies and a minimum of 1 year’s post qualification experience, gained within the last 7 years, in at least 3 of the following areas:
(i) Topographical surveys e.g. civil engineering site inspections, site investigation, setting line and level;
(ii) Preparation and updating of engineering drawings;
(iii) Use of computer applications in the workplace e.g. spreadsheets/CAD;
(iv) Supervision of civil engineering site works, e.g. contractors/direct labour force;
(v) Preparation of civil engineering contract documents e.g. specifications/bills of quantities;
(vi) Preparation of engineering reports and calculations e.g. site survey reports and feasibility reports;
OR
2. A BTEC Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering or Building Studies;
OR
3. A degree in Civil Engineering;
AND
4. A full current driving licence and access to a car enabling the licence holder to drive vehicles in Northern Ireland. (costs associated with official car usage will be reimbursed)
