My client, a leading independent provider of global services to the life science industry are currently expanding and have a vacancy for a Director/Associate Director, Medical Communications Operations.
Reporting to the VP, European Medical Communications Operations, this role will be based in their European Hub Office.
Medical Communications is part of their integrated commercial services. This position is fundamental to building credibility and strengthening relationships with healthcare providers, patients, and industry clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct the daily operations of the medical communications center and regionally based staff across Europe. This includes active monitoring of current workload (call volume, inquiry volume, phone staffing/coverage) and making adjustments or directing/re-assigning staff to specific tasks/functions as warranted to ensure optimal utilisation.
- Oversight and review of daily/monthly schedules, schedule planning, reviewing, and approving or denying requests for holiday requests based on operational needs/workload/staffing.
- Direct the activities and responsibilities of the Associate Director, Medical Information Managers, and Drug Information Associates who report to this position.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify and execute on opportunities for increasing efficiency/streamlining and/or automating appropriate aspects of the medical communications contact center activities.
- Determine, plan, and execute clinical, customer/client-service, or other training programs for the Professional, Administrative and Data Entry staff.
- Conduct short, medium, and long-term planning regarding client-management (“Project Management”) needs and corresponding need to develop/train and/or recruit/hire more professional staff to be competent in this role.
- Identify and deliver appropriate project management training programs to existing and emerging Project Managers.
- Overseeing employee productivity
- Daily operations of the contact center.
- Manage direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The requirements listed below are representative of the experience, education, knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.
- Education: A Pharm.D. or Pharm.M or a Degree in Medicine is preferred or a relevant bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or Healthcare. Common examples include BSc. Biomedical Sciences, BSc. Anatomy & Physiology, BSc. Health Science, BSc. Human Science, BSc. Psychology.
- Experience in Lifecycle safety (Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information, Safety Publishing, Risk Management etc.) is an asset. Experience in managing a Drug Information department.
- Positive Attitude and Energy: Exhibits an upbeat attitude, a genuine interest in others and a sense of humor. Energises others and heightens morale through her/his attitude.
- Ability to effectively motivate/monitor/manage individuals to ensure performance of all required activities/tasks/functions.
- Familiarity and understanding of EMA and local Regulations and European health-care systems affecting (biologics, pharmaceuticals, medical device manufacturers). In particular, detailed knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and compliance environment as it relates to the medical communications contact center. Ability to keep up to date with all relevant changes to regulations or conditions affecting the operation of the European MI Department.
- Familiarity and experience with planning/designing/delivering effective training programs, including an understanding of various learning styles and appropriate tailoring/customisation of programs based on learning style, language, and cultural value sets.
- Prior management is preferred. Prior supervisory experience, project management, and project responsibility are also preferred.
