Job Description:
- Band 5 Occupational Therapist
- Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, rota'd working 5 days out of 7 and lates
- ASAP start - End of July (date TBC)
- Hourly rate of up to £21.00
- Assess the functional abilities of the client group, taking into account physical, psychological, environmental, social, behavioural, spiritual and cultural and carer needs. These needs may be complex, changing and vary across the caseload.
- Receive referral, screen, prioritise, assess, identify need, plan intervention, implement, evaluate, adjust and review to address patients’ complex and changing needs using professional judgement and clinical reasoning.
- Take responsibility for own caseload and for acceptance in line with the departmental policy and professional guidelines.
- Provide Therapy intervention, under guidance from the Therapy Team Leader. This includes the assessment and provision of equipment/ aids and adaptations, including demonstration, fitting and instruction on the safe use of equipment including risk assessments. Provide advice to others as appropriate.
- Using advanced listening, reflecting, negotiating, communication, and empathic skills, support and facilitate potential for rehabilitation or acceptance of functional limitations or change.
- Plan, run and evaluate individual and group treatment sessions.
- Provide advice on health promotion.
- Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and provide feedback on clinical and professional issues.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with various individuals and groups on complex, potentially stressful topics in a range of situations. This may involve barriers to communication. Take responsibility for obtaining relevant support services e.g. Interpreters and Advocates.
- Supervise Band 5 Therapy staff and Therapy Assistants, providing necessary professional support and guidance and appropriate delegation of work.
- Initiate/ contribute to/ develop and implement service development proposals.
- Represent Enhanced Intermediate Care/ Rapid Response team at specific meetings under the guidance of the Therapy Team Leader.
- Provide managerial supervision for Therapy Assistants, junior staff and students including those from other disciplines across the organisation.
- Complete all necessary records, reports and statistics in line with agreed service policies and in line with professional guidelines. Maintain excellent record keeping.
- Update professional and clinical knowledge by personal study, attending relevant lectures and courses. Ability to demonstrate evidence through a personal portfolio.
- Responsible for the planning and leading of in-service training, including presenting information from courses attended and giving talks and presentations to others relevant to own area.
- Carry and fit materials and equipment in a variety of settings, regularly in awkward situations. Load and unload equipment from vehicles, assist patients in transfers, use of equipment, getting in and out of vehicles and accessing buildings.
- Assess and treat patients in a wide variety of settings, often single-handed, where patients/carers may be terminally ill, distressed and occasionally verbally aggressive/threatening. Visit patients’ homes that may, on occasion, be dirty.
- To participate in the Individual Performance Development Review (IPDR) and to be responsible for your own continuous professional development demonstrating evidence of this through a personal portfolio. All staff have a responsibility to promote safe standards of care and services and to ensure that state registration is maintained.
- Carry out IPDR with junior members of staff as requested, identifying training needs on the Personal Development Plan with the member of staff.
- To carry out clinical audit and collect appropriate, robust outcome measures to review the effectiveness and efficiency of the service.
Requirements:
- HCPC registration
- 6 months NHS experience minimum (preferably in A&E or Orthopaedics)
- Right to Work in the UK
