Strategy and Sustainability Development Manager
Job Description
This is a very exciting and new opportunity with a large and growing Hotel Group committed to sustainability and Net Zero Operations. They are looking for an experienced professional who can work with the Corporate Development Director and will be the primary lead in developing the Company’s sustainability strategy in the company’s continued journey to low or Net Zero Operations and property Development.
I. Sustainability
To be the driving force in the company’s journey in ensuring the business is as sustainable as possible whilst continuing to succeed commercially.
The Sustainable Development Manager will be required to be knowledgeable, or willing to gain substantial knowledge across all these areas and will be responsible for developing and reviewing the Energy & Sustainability Strategy in line with business strategy.
Specific responsibilities:
· Advising on the capability of committing to Science Based Targets and, mapping the best pathway to success
· In conjunction with appointed consultants, develop the most sustainable hotel specifications possible for new build properties, with applicable costings, this will include but not exclusive to:
- Structural
- Mechanical & Electrical
- Façade & Finishes
- Fit-Outs
· Assess the options for the company in terms of Net Zero opportunities
· Be the Sustainability expert when the team is assessing new potential projects, ensuring that sustainability issues are front & centre
· Draft, manage and aid the execution plan for the conversion of the existing portfolio to a more sustainable model
· Assess any opportunities for the company to avail of financing possibilities for sustainability projects
· Ensure the company continues to drive forward with its biodiversity, waste, water, and energy efficiency projects
· Monitor emerging sustainability related legal compliance as well as Government and industry best practice.
· Applying knowledge and driving best practice to meet sustainable standards
· Be the go-to person for guidance on all the latest trends, and as such will be expected to dedicate time to research and monitor announcements from key industry bodies, institutions, and networks to stay ahead of the curve.
II. Strategy
· To work closely with the Corporate Development Director and the Strategy Team in terms of:
- Continuously assessing and appraising current strategic market opportunities. This includes post investment analysis of secured acquisitions.
- Identifying, analysing, and recommending on new strategic opportunities, including potential new markets, concepts, investment / ownership structures
III. Innovation
Be a key member of the leadership team in terms of innovation opportunities / projects, ensuring there is cohesion between the different functions.
Skills Required
Personal
· A Passion and belief that the sustainability challenges we face need to be addressed proactively
· Strong interpersonal skills to manage the various relationships that exist within and outside the company
· Commercially minded and appetite to understand/critique strategies.
· Strong level of initiative in finding ways to resolve problems as they arise in projects.
· High level of enthusiasm and energy to manage several projects simultaneously.
· Demonstrated experience of prospering and succeeding within a fast-moving company environment
Technical
- A professional finance qualification is helpful but not essential
- Experience in investment return evaluation techniques.
- A broad understanding of the technical challenges related to sustainability
- An ability and willingness to understand the challenges involved in delivering on property projects – planning, design, due diligence etc
- Ability to write recommendation reports to suit varying audiences (technical and non-technical).
- Awareness of carbon reporting and accounting.
- Evidence of delivering innovation and engaging positively with continuous change and improvement
