About the Role
As a Mechanical and / or Electrical Maintenance Technician, you will support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the gas-fired Energy Centre and associated utilities. Bringing your relevant experience, you will do additional training across predictive maintenance, CMMS (Pemac), reliability engineering, and advanced plant systems including fuel oil, industrial gas, turbines, boilers, compressors, diesel generators, pumps and HVAC.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team (electrical, mechanical, controls and operations) ensuring uninterrupted power delivery to critical data-centre operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and investigate utility plant equipment faults, performing root-cause analysis.
- Execute planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance—ensuring PMs are completed on schedule.
- Record all maintenance activities via the CMMS; develop PMs, job plans and SOPs.
- Support compliance, quality engineering and deviation investigations.
- Liaise with planners and stores teams to ensure spare parts availability.
- Review maintenance programmes to optimise uptime and plant reliability.
- Assist Site Engineers & HV Engineers with complex isolations, maintenance planning and fault investigations.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct overhauls and maintenance on gas engines/turbines, including oil changes, belts/couplings, vibration checks.
- Maintain fuel systems, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, cooling towers and auxiliary systems.
- Perform mechanical diagnostics, component replacements, and precision alignment.
- Carry out condition monitoring (vibration analysis, oil sampling, thermography).
- Maintain HVAC/cooling systems for control rooms and generator enclosures.
- Work safely within permit-to-work systems, including hot work, confined space and pressure systems.
- Support audits, documentation, and environmental/emissions reporting.
- Collaborate with electrical and operations teams during plant start-ups, shutdowns and testing.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience in power generation, utilities, CHP, energy conversion, or heavy industrial maintenance.
- Expertise with fuel-oil systems, industrial gas installations, gas & steam turbines, diesel generators and boilers.
- Ability to make informed decisions on plant outages, backups and safe recovery of systems.
- Understanding of emergency actions during service outages.
- Qualification: National Craft Certificate or Level 6+ in Mechanical Fitting, Industrial/Plant Maintenance, Marine Engineering, or equivalent.
- 2–4 years’ experience with rotating machinery, power gen equipment or critical mechanical / electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of lubrication systems, gas engines and thermal management.
- Ability to read mechanical / electrical drawings, P&IDs and schematics.
- Skilled in fault-finding, alignment, and condition-based maintenance.
- Excellent safety awareness and teamwork.
Equipment & Systems Exposure
Gas engines/turbines, fuel & oil pumps, mechanical seals, HVAC plant, chillers, water/glycol systems, vibration probes, IR thermography and more.
