About the Role
The Commercial Underwriter plays a key role in underwriting small to medium-sized Property, Liability, Miscellaneous, and Commercial Combined risks for both broker and direct clients. The position involves assessing, pricing, and managing risk in line with underwriting appetite, while delivering a high standard of service to clients and supporting broader underwriting and business objectives.
The role also includes a small element of consumer underwriting, covering core personal lines such as Motor, Home, and Personal Accident for both direct and broker channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite and manage Property, Liability, Commercial Combined, and Miscellaneous risks for small to medium-sized direct and broker clients.
- Manage a designated portfolio of clients with a measured and pragmatic approach.
- Evaluate, price, and underwrite Motor, Home, and Personal Accident risks.
- Take ownership and accountability for underwriting decisions in line with delegated authority and risk appetite.
- Apply disciplined risk assessment to support sustainable portfolio performance.
- Ensure accuracy and clarity in policy wordings and endorsements to maintain contract certainty.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Support senior underwriters and contribute to team objectives.
Requirements
- CIP qualification (or equivalent) with membership of the Insurance Institute of Ireland.
- 3–5 years of experience in Commercial and Consumer Lines insurance.
- Strong technical knowledge across Commercial and Personal Lines products.
- Strong analytical and numeracy skills.
- Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proactive approach, flexibility, and strong work ethic.
