Cpl Healthcare are currently recruiting for a Social Worker for a temporary agency role working as part of HSE Community Healthcare Organisation.
The Setting
St Mary’s Hospital campus provides health care services to older adults and adults with a disability. Services include residential services for older persons, frail elderly rehabilitation, specialist stroke rehabilitation, community response model of inpatient care and a Day Hospital service. The person appointed to this post will be required to participate as a member of a Social Work Team based at St. Mary’s Hospital working as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a coordinated approach to client care
The Post
The purpose of the post is to provide a social work service that seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of the service users within the context of their admission to St. Mary’s Hospital. The post holder will work in partnership with patients and families to empower and enable coping with the impact of illness, disability, hospital admission and discharge. S/he will achieve this through the implementation of an accessible, equitable, person-centred professional social work service. Within the Hospital, the social worker plays a key role in coordinating community-based services to ensure a safe and timely discharge from hospital back to the community. In the event that an older person cannot return to community living, the social worker is the key professional providing the older person and their family with information and support in applying for the nursing home support scheme (NHSS). As a senior social worker, the post holder will work closely with the Principal Social worker on service developments and will supervise professionally qualified staff
Each candidate must have at the latest date of application:
1. Pre-employment Screening checks.
Senior Social Workers must have a minimum of three years of social work experience, ideally with some experience in a medical setting or working with older persons.
All candidates must have necessary pre-employment screening checks completed by the agency including Garda / international police clearance, current CORU registration and three verified references.
All candidates need to have verification that they have completed the following e-learning programmes on HSEland: 1. Children First, 2. Good Information Practices, 3. Effective Complaints Handling and 4. Safeguarding adults at risk of abuse
All candidates need to have completed the HSE Infection Prevention Control module on HSEland: 1. Hand hygiene for clinical staff, 2. Breaking the Chain of Infection and 3. Putting on and Taking Off PPE in Community Healthcare Settings.

• Demonstrates an ability to assess psychosocial factors impacting on an frail older person
• Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of illness, hospitalisation and disability on a frail older person and their family
• Demonstrate knowledge of policy, legislation and best practice guidelines relevant to social work practice issues.
• Demonstrate ability to use theoretical evidence to support all work undertaken.
• Demonstrate a strong awareness of social work values.
• Demonstrate the ability to manage self in a busy working environment including the ability to prioritise caseloads.
• ability to form collaborative working relationships with colleagues internal and external to the hospital in order to promote the highest standards of care and service delivery
• Demonstrate ability to utilise supervision effectively including attending to ethical issues.
• Display awareness and appreciation of the service user as expert through experience including promoting the involvement of the service user in care planning, decision-making and service development.
• Demonstrate ability to treat service user, their families and all colleagues with dignity and respect.
3) Desirable Experience
• Experience of working with older people and / or medical social work experience
• Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience with Fair Deal, the Nursing Home Support Scheme, and Home Care Package processes as relevant to the role
