About the Company

Our client is a rapidly expanding medical device manufacturing company based in Celbridge, Co. Kildare. As part of their ongoing growth, the company is installing two new complex production lines for global customers. To support this expansion, they are seeking an accomplished Senior Automation Engineer to join their team.

Role Overview

The Senior Automation Engineer will play a key role in managing, introducing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated equipment and systems. You will be central to the design, programming, simulation, and testing of new automation solutions, supporting the successful integration of new production lines. This role requires a hands-on automation expert who thrives in fast-paced environments and can provide both technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration.




Key Responsibilities

  • Support the installation, commissioning, and optimisation of two new production lines.
  • Design, program, simulate, and test automated machinery and processes.
  • Develop schematics for automation components using CAD software.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform repairs on automation equipment.
  • Regularly calibrate equipment and ensure operational reliability.
  • Analyse production processes and identify automation opportunities to drive efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external 3rd party clients to deliver automation solutions.
  • Manage supply chain issues related to automation equipment and spare parts.
  • Develop and write requirements for quality assurance and machine operation.
  • Drive continuous improvement in automation systems aligned with business needs.



 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 7+ years’ experience in automation engineering, ideally within medical device, pharmaceutical, or high-volume manufacturing including Brewing, Distilling, Food and Beverage Manufacturing etc…
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, robotics, and control systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and automation design tools.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting and maintaining complex automated systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a structured, analytical approach.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise directly with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience managing automation projects from concept through to implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to cross-functional teams.
