Case study: RPO

Executive Summary

Our client is a software company that specializes in business messaging, providing businesses with a way to chat with their customers. The client is headquartered in San Francisco and has offices in Chicago, Dublin, Sydney, and London.

More than 25,000 organizations use their software to send an average of 500 million messages a month.

Cpl’s RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing) team provides the client with an embedded recruitment team (full talent acquisition function). This team is focused on recruiting hard-to-fill R&D positions, but with Cpl's support, can be deployed to fill other positions across the organisation as needed.

Client Challenge:

The client faces several key talent market challenges due to their continued success. These include:

  • Hypergrowth and the need to scale rapidly

  • The ability to source qualified talent for niche engineering and R&D roles

  • Cross discipline expertise on an on/off basis

  • Expansion during a global pandemic

  • Adapting to an uncertain business environment

For example, they recently began a drive to hire 400 new staff and will be increasing that need to 600 people. This drive requires a larger recruitment team, expertise in several disciplines, and the ability to recruit for some specific roles. The in-house recruitment team, while more than competent, would be overwhelmed by this ask as they lack the capacity and expertise to meet the need in a short period of time.

The client’s journey:

As our clients grow, so do their needs. This client originally sourced Cpl TEG as an RPO provider as they had identified needs around niche recruitment. As our expertise and ability to source quality talent became more apparent the RPO organically grew to include scalability and cross-discipline expertise to tackle hypergrowth and pandemic hiring. As we look towards the future, our team is gearing up to introduce new RPO elements to the client, including D&I focused recruitment and international sourcing.

RPO Elements

The TEG (Talent Evolution Group) team uses a unique RPO element process. Cpl provides a full range of RPO services which are broken down into RPO elements. By analysing the brief, having in-depth discussions with the client to understand their goals, and using vast industry knowledge the TEG team can offer up a program tailored specifically to meet the client's needs. This approach meets client expectations and allows Cpl to utilise several aspects of each type of RPO offering. The TEG team proposed applying the following elements to help the client reach their hiring goals:

  • Programme Management

  • Talent acquisition

  • Localised sourcing strategy

  • International sourcing strategy

  • Talent pool management

  • Reporting and insights

  • Training

  • Cost optimisation

Future Proposals:

  • Employer value proposition

  • People value proposition

  • DEI

Cpl delights the client:

From the initial offering, the Cpl RPO with this client has grown from a niche talent acquisition team to a full-scale recruitment department and back. Cpl’s ability to deploy resources where and when needed, depth of knowledge across all disciplines, and ability to source specific talent are the core reasons the client continues to value the RPO.

Future growth opportunities include using Cpl’s European-wide locations to continue sourcing candidates and the implementation of DEI programmes designed to increase employee wellbeing and tenure.

Results:

With over 150 quality talent hires made since 2019 the TEG team has delivered beyond the initial client KPIs. Our average time to hire is 20% shorter than anticipated, and the RPO team continues to engage with and anticipate the client's needs.
