Education:
BSc/MSC in Health & Safety or equivalent scientific/engineering discipline(s)
Membership of IOSH would be an advantage
Competencies:
Ability to self-manage and work on their own initiative
Establishing, implementing, and maintaining certified (OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001) EHS management system
Excellent working knowledge of EHS legislation and best practices
Communications:
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Presentation to plant management, employees, & regulators
- Preparation and delivery of EHS training
Problem solving skills
Provide leadership & coaching to manufacturing operations staff as part of EHS management programmes
Duties will include:
- Establish, implement, and maintain an EHS management system that will be certified to the OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards
- Develop, review and approve safe systems of work (i.e. risk assessments, work instructions, safety procedures, permits to work etc.) for both employees and contractors
- Prepare and implement short, medium and long term EHS objectives and targets to drive continuous improvement of the EHS management system
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate, and best practice EHS requirements
- Conduct EHS inspections and audits
- Develop and deliver EHS training, awareness and communications both internally and externally
- Prepare for and participate in audits by corporate, regulatory, and accreditation bodies
- Support the investigation of EHS incidents by colleagues including root cause analysis and identification of appropriate corrective and preventive actions
- Assist with development and implementation of emergency response plan
- Collect, monitor and report on EHS data and KPIs
- Conduct EHS reviews of changes, new equipment and projects to ensure EHS requirements are addressed
- Provide guidance and support to colleagues on EHS issues and complying with EHS management system requirements
- Collaborate with other departments and personnel both on site and across the network of sites to work on common EHS issues to share best practices
- Implement and maintain EHS software
- Lead by example and role model good safety behaviour and environmental practices to develop and support a high performing EHS culture on site
