Respiratory Physiologist – Naas General Hospital
Respiratory Physiologist, basic grade required by Cpl Healthcare, in partnership with the HSE, for a new opportunity based in Naas General Hospital.
Job responsibilities:
· Perform full range of non-invasive respiratory diagnostic tests including spirometry, bronchodilator testing, lung volumes, gas transfer, body plethysmography, airways resistance, and maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressures.
· Perform a range of invasive diagnostic procedures including exercise provocation studies, bronchial challenge tests, skin allergy testing (under supervision of a more senior grade).
· Set up, and assisting at Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise testing including all procedures associated with this investigation.
· Perform Limited/Full polysomnography (if experienced) and oximetry testing.
· Carrying out the technical aspects of ambulatory oxygen monitoring, including analysis of same.
· Advise nursing, medical and technical staff in the implementation of patient care involving technology.
· Contributing as required to the development of training for established staff and external groups.
· Daily calibration of all equipment and regular maintenance with quality procedure checks.
· Recognition of abnormal results and bringing these to the attention of the Senior Respiratory Physiologist.
· Correct handling of hazardous materials e.g. Special gas mixtures, chemicals, etc.
· Sterilization of equipment and work related areas.
· Maintaining adequate laboratory supplies.
· Proficiency in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques.
The Physiologist will be responsible for the care and cleanliness of all equipment, areas and accessories used by him/her. Physiologist must be familiar with, and follow the program of infection control. Every effort must be made to prevent the spread of infection between patients and staff, and ensure that the equipment does not become contaminated.
As medical procedures change and new developments are introduced, the Physiologist must update his/her knowledge and training accordingly. The Physiologist must stay current with department, hospital and national quality assurance protocols.
Laboratory Administration
In the absence of clerical support, the Physiologist may be required to make appointments, record patient details, prepare results for reporting by medical staff, dispatch clinical copies and file laboratory copies. Computer files must be archived and updated regularly.

Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology.
Or
Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) / 4th year students qualifying 2022.
Or
Possess an equivalent relevant scientific qualification (Level 8) as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science (IICMS).
Or
(a) Possess the Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology.
Or
(b) An equivalent scientific qualification as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science awarded in or before 2005. (See Note 1*)
And
Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
Health
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
