Flexsource NI are recruiting a Wastewater Scientific Officer on a temporary full time basis in the Belfast area.
The Wastewater Scientific Officer will undertake a range of performance activities to optimize WwTW Process and Sewer Network performance within the Wastewater Production Line
Responsibilities:
Monitor and assess wastewater treatment works performance through on-site testing, inspections, and sampling activities.
Identify process issues, collect and analyse samples, and support investigations into treatment performance.
Operate and maintain automatic sampling equipment to ensure accurate collection of operational and regulatory data.
Analyse scientific data and prepare reports to support process optimisation and regulatory compliance.
Validate and monitor critical treatment process instrumentation, identifying trends and improvement opportunities.
Conduct root cause analysis of operational issues and recommend corrective actions to improve performance.
Support pollution prevention activities and liaise with internal teams and regulatory bodies during investigations.
Deliver training and guidance to operational staff on sampling, testing procedures, and data recording systems.
Assist with odour investigations, environmental monitoring, and the assessment of discharge impacts on wastewater networks.
Maintain scientific equipment, manage sampling resources, and contribute to innovation and continuous improvement projects.
Criteria:
A level or equivalent in a relevant scientific or environmental subject
2 years experience working in a water or wastewater scientific role
Knowledge and understanding of wastewater treatment processes and of analytical techniques carried out on wastewater
Knowledge and experience of health & safety in wastewater treatment
Proficient IT user, to include Microsoft office packages
Full UK driving licence
Availability to participate in an on-call rota
