Role: Design Automation Engineer
Location: Galway - Onsite
Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract Type: 12-month contract + extensions
About the Company
Here at CPL, we are supporting a leading multinational medical technology organisation who are currently seeking to hire an experienced Design Automation Engineers for an initial 12-month contract.
Key responsibilities
- Support troubleshooting and problem resolution on automated manufacturing lines.
- Investigate equipment downtime and assist with root cause analysis.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Support installation, commissioning, and startup of new or modified automation equipment.
- Provide hands-on support during hypercare or production ramp-up phases.
- Assist with software, controls, and system-level debugging.
- Support integration of electrical, mechanical, hardware, and software components.
- Contribute to equipment improvement, standardisation, and continuous improvement activities.
- Support validation, verification, and change control activities as required.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and support updates to procedures and specifications.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver reliable automation solutions.
Required Experience
- Demonstrable experience in automation and/or controls engineering.
- Must have experience with Beckhoff Automation
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting automated equipment and production lines.
- Ability to diagnose issues across electrical, mechanical, and software domains.
- Experience working in a regulated industry, ideally medical device or similar.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Technical Skills
- Experience with PLC-based control systems.
- Allen-Bradley / Rockwell experience essential.
- Experience with vision systems such as Cognex or Keyence preferred.
- Exposure to Beckhoff, Epson robots, motion control, and HMI/SCADA (Ignition) systems desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and machine documentation.
- Experience with commissioning, testing, and equipment support activities.
- Knowledge of structured problem-solving and continuous improvement methods.
- Education Requirements
- Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline.
