Role Purpose
The Finance function requires a part-qualified accountant to provide dedicated support across the month-end close cycle, with particular emphasis on balance sheet reconciliations, P&L analysis, and high-volume data processing. This is a fast-paced role suited to a candidate who is highly proficient in Excel and comfortable working to tight deadlines with large datasets.
Key Responsibilities
- Month-end close support — Support the end-to-end month-end process, ensuring deadlines are met and the close timetable is adhered to.
- Balance sheet reconciliations — Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations across multiple accounts, identifying and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner, and escalating unresolved discrepancies to the Financial Controller.
- P&L support — Assist with month-end P&L preparation, variance analysis, and commentary on movements against budget/forecast.
- Large dataset management — Extract, manipulate, and analyse large volumes of transactional data to support reconciliation and reporting requirements.
- Process improvement — Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and accuracy of month-end processes, including reconciliation templates and reporting workflows.
- Audit support — Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audit queries relating to balance sheet and P&L items.
- Ad hoc analysis — Respond to ad hoc requests from the Financial Controller/Finance Manager for financial analysis and reporting.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent), actively pursuing final qualification.
- Experience within Republic of Ireland
- Irish Citizen, EU Passport or valid Stamp 1G/4 visa for duration of contract
- Proven experience in a fast-paced finance function, with direct exposure to month-end close.
- Strong, demonstrable experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations at volume.
- Experience supporting P&L month-end processes, including variance analysis.
- Extremely proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, large dataset handling) — this is a core requirement, not a preference.
- Experience working with large, complex datasets and extracting them from ERP/finance systems.
- Strong attention to detail and comfortable working under time pressure during close periods.
Desirable
- Experience with [ERP system — e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics].
- Exposure to process automation or reconciliation tools (e.g., Power Query, Power BI, BlackLine).
- Experience in a shared services or multi-entity group environment.
