Emergency Call Takers - National Ambulance Service, Tallaght, Dublin 24
Cpl Healthcare in partnership with the National Ambulance Service, National Emergency Operations Centre are recruiting for a number of Call Takers for ongoing assignments commencing on 16th March 2026.
Vacancies exist in Ambulance Command and Control Centre, working on the intermediate care service with further training to work in emergency (999 / 112) services.
The Role:
The Emergency Medical Call Taker (EMCT) is responsible for the efficient and effective call taking of Emergency, Intermediate Care and related calls and requests in order to meet service users’ needs in a timely manner and within the framework of policies, procedures and guidelines.
The main purpose of the Intermediate Care Service is to provide inter hospital and inter-facility transfer of patients in order to support the Acute Hospitals planning/bed management and discharge policies.
Pre-hospital emergency care is delivered by Advanced Paramedics and Paramedics in emergency ambulances.
An extensive in-house training program of will be provided. Attendance and availability for same are mandatory.
Duties of the role include:
· Ensure that all requests for Emergency Medical Services and Intermediate Care Services are dealt with appropriately with particular emphasis on can do approach ensuring the best outcomes for all patients and clients.
· Achieve emergency activation and response times standards in line with the PHECC EMS Dispatch Standard, comply with all call categorisation as determined by a Medical Priority Dispatch System.
· Operate alternative referral pathways systems focussed on providing a more appropriate service to patients other than an ambulance or attendance at an Emergency Dept.
· Be responsible for the effective and efficient pre-planning of routine patient transport and associated transport schedules
· Mobilise and brief as appropriate Ambulance Crews, Intermediate Care Operative crews, health services (hospital and community based) and other agencies as required
· Liaise with non-health service agencies as required
· Provide appropriate pre - arrival and post - dispatch instructions in response to calls in a prompt and timely manner
Essential criteria
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Good problem solving and analytical skills
· Ability to work well in highly pressurised situations
· Excellent PC and IT skills
· Ability to work shift patterns day and nights
· A basic typing speed of at least 30 wpm by touch typing
· Experience and an interest in emergency service is desirable, but not essential
