Role Summary
This is a high‑impact, commercially focused finance role. The Financial/Commercial Accountant will act as a key business partner—combining strong financial expertise with business analyst tendencies, commercial curiosity, and data‑driven problem‑solving. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping strategic decisions, driving performance insights, and supporting growth across multiple entities.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Group Finance, the Financial/Commercial Accountant will:
- Act as a strategic finance partner Managing Director, bringing commercial insight, scenario modelling, and business‑focused analysis to support decision‑making.
- Apply business‑analyst thinking to interrogate data, identify trends, improve visibility, and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Deliver monthly financial reporting, including management accounts, variance analysis, and commercial commentary, along with quarterly forecasts and annual budgets.
- Support tax compliance and planning, ensuring timely submissions and optimal structures.
- Develop, monitor, and enhance KPIs, with a strong focus on revenue, margin, productivity, utilisation, and operational efficiency across the business and its subsidiaries.
- Continuously enhance financial processes and controls, identifying opportunities for simplification, automation, and improved data integrity.
- Ensure full compliance with all statutory, tax, and accounting requirements.
- Support finance transformation initiatives, including system upgrades, process redesign, and technology‑driven improvements.
- Provide commercial analysis for new business opportunities, pricing decisions, investment proposals, and strategic initiatives.
- Contribute to internal audit cycles, budget preparation, and long‑term planning.
- Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership and Boards in a clear, compelling, commercially oriented manner.
- Engage in cross‑functional projects, bringing finance, commercial, and business‑analysis capability to broader organisational initiatives.
- Responsible for balance sheet reconciliations, month end close tasks and other adhoc tasks across the finance team as they occur.
Required Competencies
- Qualified accountant with 3–5 years’ post‑qualification experience in a commercially oriented environment.
- Strong grounding in financial reporting, controls, and multi‑entity operations.
- Experience with tax compliance and planning.
- Demonstrated business analyst tendencies—data interrogation, trend identification, scenario analysis, and problem‑solving.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, with interest in finance systems, BI tools, and automation technologies.
- Strong commercial acumen and experience partnering with senior stakeholders.
- Project management capabilities, particularly around systems upgrades and process improvement.
