Job Summary
An experienced Underwriter is sought for a 12-month maternity cover position to assess and analyse new and existing Individual and Group Risk business. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of market experience as an underwriter, demonstrate strong analytical and decision-making skills, and possess excellent attention to detail. This role offers an opportunity to further develop your underwriting expertise in a professional and supportive environment.
The position may be available on a full-time or part-time basis, as flexibility is encouraged to attract the best candidates.
This role is designated as a Controlled Function (CF) under the Central Bank Reform Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and apply appropriate terms within authority and company guidelines for Life, Serious Illness, and Income Protection proposals.
- Evaluate medical, occupational, avocational, and financial risks.
- Produce high-quality underwriting decisions efficiently and accurately.
- Liaise with the Chief Medical Officer and reinsurers on complex cases.
- Collaborate with the New Business department to ensure smooth communication of underwriting requirements and final decisions.
- Communicate effectively with brokers and consultants to explain underwriting outcomes and requirements.
- Work independently with a strong focus on accuracy and consistency.
- Continue developing professional knowledge through training seminars and workshops.
Skills and Experience
- Relevant degree and a Diploma in Life and Disability Underwriting (preferred).
- 3–5 years’ experience with underwriting authority for Life, Serious Illness, and ideally Income Protection.
- Strong commitment to delivering excellent customer outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
- Proven ability to manage time and workload effectively while maintaining flexibility and a collaborative approach.
- A proactive team player with a focus on continuous learning and development.
