Stop the press! Production Planner required to join a growing team in Edinburgh.
This really is an exciting opportunity in which you use your purchasing, negotiating and planning experience to actively support the Operations Team as they develop their ground breaking Medical Device products and bring them to market.
As a Production Planner you shall have either an undergraduate degree in a technical subject, plus a professional procurement qualification (CIPS), or equivalent experience.
The Production Planner / Buyers Main duties and responsibilities are as follows..
- Forecast deployment, manufacturing and purchasing, and integrating such with the placement forecasts provided by the commercial team.
- Sales and Operations Planning Process Owner.
- Control Production Material Flow through Pull Processes Kanban replenishment, with all inventory located at or near point of consumption.
- Managing System Install Base with accurate traceability at all times.
- Responsible for ensuring all inventory transactions are recorded accurately in real time on the ERP system, including:
- Receipt of raw materials
- Movement of goods throughout the production process (including processing assembly orders)
- Posting of final assembly and support QC sign off process
- Researching sources of supply for current and prospective products to minimise supply chain risks and managing supplier agreements and audits
- Substitution of BOM parts for lower cost/improved service based on global sourcing
- Ensuring MRP system is maintained and up to date (e.g. ensuring correct supplier part numbering)
- Generating and maintaining achievable production plans, including ensuring all materials and equipment are available as scheduled and purchasing of routine BOM parts
- Measuring and reporting on material variances, working closely with the production team to investigate and take action to reduce
- Creating and maintaining ISO 13485:2016 compliant supply chain processes and procedures
The Production Planner / Buyers Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- Excellent analytical, numeracy, organisational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communicator with the skills to build relationships, influence and negotiate
- Commercial acumen with an understanding of the business needs of our client and suppliers
- Driven by desire to continuously improve efficiency

- Analytical, with strong, data-led decision making
Experience
- Proven track record of buying in a technical production or engineering environment
- Staff Planning within a Manufacturing environment, preferably Medical Device
- Lean / Six Sigma experience / Value Stream Mapping / Problem Solving Methodologies
- Good knowledge of MRP and ERP systems (ideally Microsoft Business Central)
- Good broad knowledge of engineering materials, mechanical components, PCBA etc
- Background in a highly regulated product sector (ideally Medical Device)
This is a permanent, full-time role based in Edinburgh, in our customers new Manufacturing Facility. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
