JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Process EHS engineer will lead and manage all Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) aspects of a critical technology transfer project at a biopharmaceutical manufacturing site. The role requires a highly skilled specialist who can ensure compliance, identify and mitigate risks, and implement safety and containment strategies in line with organizational and regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide leadership and expertise in managing EHS-related activities during the transfer of a new technology to the site.
• Act as the key liaison between manufacturing, engineering, project teams, and external stakeholders for EHS matters.
• Support and coordinate Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), and Layers of Protection Analyses (LOPA).
• Develop and ensure the correct and timely closure of corrective or preventive actions resulting from these analyses.
• Oversee Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments to ensure that critical safety instrumented systems are adequately implemented.
• Ensure effective chemical handling, containment, and relevant process safety strategies are in place.
• Manage EHS aspects of change controls within the project, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory standards.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with ATEX regulations and implement corresponding controls.
• Provide support to meet environmental compliance, ensuring all applicable legislation is adhered to during and post-transfer.
• Identify opportunities for improved environmental controls within the project scope.
• Deliver EHS training to project teams.
• Communicate EHS updates, risks, and progress to key stakeholders and senior management.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in EHS, Chemical Engineering, or related field
o Proven experience in process safety roles within biopharma, chemical, or process industries.
o Demonstrated experience in activities such as PHA, HAZOP, and LOPA.
o Hands-on knowledge of ATEX, SIL, and chemical containment practices.
o Solid understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices for EHS in a bio/pharma setting.
o Experience in handling hazardous chemicals and assessing/implementing containment strategies.
o Adept in change management processes, documentation, and action closure.
