Senior Social Worker – Adults Disabilities Service – Galway
Social Worker, Senior required for a permanent position with our client, an organization providing a wide range of services to adults and children with intellectual disability and autism across Galway City and Count including day, residential, short breaks, respite, community supports, rehabilitative training and multi-disciplinary supports.
The role will involve working with adults from 18 – 65+ years requiring low to high support and/or complex needs.
As a Senior Social Worker, you will be responsible for:
- Providing assessment, interventions and proactively providing personal and educational input into person centred program planning.
- Empowering service users to advocate for themselves where appropriate
- Support the Head of Social Work by taking on additional delegated responsibilities where appropriate, ensuring continuity of service and departmental leadership.
- Supervise and support other social workers, students, and staff as required, ensuring adherence to professional standards and best practice.
- Lead and contribute to safeguarding processes, including chairing or supporting case discussions, completing assessments, and liaising with Designated Officers and statutory bodies.
- Undertake project work, service development initiatives, or represent the department at internal and external meetings as delegated by the Head of Social Work.
This role will be a mix of working across residential and day centres and will also involve some outreach to adults living at home.
Interested candidates will have the following:
- A recognised professional qualification in Social Work and CORU registration
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience, ideally within disability, safeguarding, or related social work settings.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex casework and make evidence-based professional decisions.
- Proven experience of supervising, mentoring, or supporting colleagues within a professional setting.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands, take initiative, and reliably follow through on delegated tasks.
- Flexibility and resilience to take on additional responsibilities as directed, including deputising for the Head of Social Work when required, in line with professional competence and organisational needs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills, with the ability to represent the Social Work Department at internal and external forums.
- Full current driving licence with access to own vehicle
