Technical Officer – Domestic Retrofit & Energy Programmes (M&E)

Our client, a well-established organisation operating at the centre of Ireland’s domestic retrofit and energy efficiency programmes is seeking a Technical Officer to join its technical team. The Role; You will provide technical support, acting as a key point of contact for contractors, applicants, members of the public, internal field staff, and the SEAI. The role requires practical, real-world construction knowledge combined with strong communication and organisational skills. Applicants must have experience in a relevant English Speaking role and have full authorisation to work in Ireland with no restrictions or Expiry.
This role is ideally suited to any of the following;
· Qualified tradesperson (plumbing, electrical, heating, or building services) or a construction professional who is looking to move from site-based work into a technical, office-based role while remaining closely connected to the industry.
or
· Energy or Technical Graduates with circa 2 years relevant experience
Key Responsibilities
- Handling technical queries from contractors relating to inspections, specifications, and compliance
- Managing technical calls from applicants and members of the public regarding SEAI domestic retrofit grant schemes (note, they have an additional call centre for ‘non technical enquiries’ The Technical Executive Team are not based at the call centre
- Processing technical appeals and reworks
- Supporting field-based inspection and technical teams
- Interpreting drawings, specifications, and retrofit standards
- Assisting with weekly and monthly technical reporting
- Attending regular technical and stakeholder meetings with the SEAI
- Ensuring accurate capture and documentation of technical information
Essential Experience & Skills
- Recognised qualification in Construction, Engineering, or Building Services
- OR a qualified construction trade background (e.g. plumbing, electrical, heating)
- Solid practical knowledge of domestic construction and building services
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Confident dealing with contractors, customers, and stakeholders
- Good IT skills and ability to work across multiple systems
- Sound judgement and the ability to manage difficult or technical queries professionally
- Reliable, self-motivated, and quality-focused
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a technical team
Added Bonus, but not essential
- Experience / Knowledge within the retrofit or energy efficiency sector
- Experience / Knowledge with heat pumps, solar PV, solar thermal
- BER qualification or familiarity with BER assessments
- Supervisory or foreman experience
- Strong understanding of building regulations and retrofit standards
