Medical Secretary - Naas
Hours: Full-time (Grade IV equivalent)
Salary: €19.57
Job Purpose:
To provide comprehensive clerical and secretarial support to the medical team, ensuring efficient operation of administrative processes within the hospital department. The post holder will handle correspondence, manage clinic schedules, and maintain accurate patient and departmental records.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide full secretarial and administrative support to medical consultants and clinical staff.
- Type and format medical correspondence, reports, and clinic notes accurately and efficiently.
- Manage incoming calls, emails, and enquiries, ensuring appropriate follow-up and communication.
- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments and clinic timetables.
- Maintain and update patient records, files, and databases in line with data protection regulations.
- Process referrals, test results, and discharge summaries in a timely manner.
- Liaise with other hospital departments, GP practices, and external agencies as required.
- Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Assist with general administrative duties including filing, photocopying, and document management.
- Participate in departmental meetings and support service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications / Experience:
- Previous experience as a Medical Secretary or in a hospital administrative setting essential.
- Proficient typing and IT skills (Microsoft Office, hospital systems, e.g., iPMS).
- Excellent communication, organisational, and multitasking abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise workload under pressure.
- Knowledge of medical terminology desirable.
