Junior Design Engineer – Commercial Solar
About the Role
A growing renewable energy company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Design Engineer to join its expanding team. This role will focus on the design and pricing of commercial solar PV projects, with a strong emphasis on maximising return on investment (ROI) for customers.
You will work closely with an experienced Project Engineer, gaining hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle — from initial design and compliance through to commissioning and after-sales support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design commercial solar PV systems to optimise performance and ROI
- Prepare system layouts, technical specifications, and cost estimates
- Support pricing analysis and proposal preparation
- Monitor and maintain existing installations
- Diagnose and resolve system performance issues
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency
- Develop knowledge of grid infrastructure and connection processes
- Support regulatory compliance and safety standards
- Assist with post-sales project delivery and commissioning
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Design Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong interest in renewable energy and sustainability
- Understanding of electrical systems and principles
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience with PV design software (e.g., PVsyst, AutoCAD, Helioscope)
- Internship or industry placement experience
- Knowledge of Irish grid standards
