Overview of the role:
The Mechanical Technician will train on all Processes and techniques across Predictive Maintenance, CMMS (Pemac), Reliability techniques on Fuel Oil, industrial Gas distribution, Turbines, Boilers Compressors, Diesel Generators Pumps.
Role Purpose
To carry out maintenance, inspection, and repair of all mechanical systems supporting the site’s gas-fired power generation plant and associated utilities — ensuring continuous availability, safety, and efficiency of operations.
Duties of the Role include:
- Trouble-shooting and high-level investigation of utility plant equipment faults and failures – root cause analysis
- Compliance/quality engineering – recording and investigation of deviations on utility plant and equipment
- Carry out planned preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance as required
- Ensure PMs are completed on time
- Enter all details on the CMMS system
- Develop PMs and Job Plans as well as SOPs for plant equipment.
- Liaising with site planner re stores to identify spare part requirements;
- Review maintenance programme periodically to ensure optimal uptime levels are achieved
- Support and comply with all Safety procedures
- Support the Site engineer & HV Engineer in carrying out Root Cause Analysis on plant failures to determine the sequence of events, the underlying root cause and assist the in developing proposals to remedy the fault;
- Assist the Site Engineer & HV Engineer in planning and executing complex utility service isolations for maintenance, projects and client works;
- Identify, develop and, if approved, implement Continuous Improvement measures to improve the efficiency of plant and working practices;
- Seek to continuously improve knowledge and understanding of complex mechanical systems
- Conduct routine maintenance and overhauls on gas engines or turbines, including oil and filter changes, belt and coupling inspections, and vibration checks.
- Maintain fuel systems, lube-oil circuits, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Monitor and maintain exhaust, ventilation, and acoustic systems.
- Perform mechanical fault diagnosis, component replacement, and alignment work.
- Carry out condition monitoring — vibration analysis, oil sampling, thermography.
- Maintain and service HVAC and cooling systems for control rooms and generator enclosures.
- Operate within strict safety and permit-to-work systems, adhering to confined-space, hot-work, and pressure-system protocols.
- Keep detailed maintenance records, assist with audits, and support environmental and emissions reporting.
- Work closely with electrical, controls, and operations teams during start-ups, shutdowns, and testing.
Skills & Experience
- Past working experience ideally gained in energy conversion and distribution
- Experience with: Fuel Oil storage and distribution systems. Industrial gas installations and distribution. Gas and Steam turbines, diesel generators, boilers
- Have sufficient knowledge of plant to allow decision making in terms of taking plant off line, communicating with relevant people on site and be capable of identifying the action required to get plant back on line or introduce back-up and standby systems;
- Understand the actions to be taken in the event of a serious service outage;
- National Craft Certificate or similar Level 6+ qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Industrial Maintenance, or Plant Engineering or Marine Engineering
- 2 – 4 years’ experience maintaining power-generation or CHP equipment, industrial rotating machinery, or critical mechanical systems.
- Solid understanding of gas-engine systems, lubrication, and thermal management.
- Familiarity with mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and control schematics.
- Competent in fault-finding, alignment, and condition-based maintenance.
- Excellent safety awareness and teamwork under operational constraints.
Equipment & Systems
Gas engines/turbines fuel and oil pumps, mechanical seals, HVAC plant, chillers, water/glycol systems, vibration probes, IR thermography.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary energy-centre team (electrical, mechanical, controls, operations).
- Participate in rotating shift cover or on-call roster.
- Uphold environmental and safety compliance per EPA and company standards.
- Support new-build commissioning and testing phases for additional data-centre blocks.
