Role Objective
The Category Specialist is responsible for the deployment of best practice solutions to meet the operational procurement goals of the assigned category and for achieving best value for money. The role also has a key responsibility for developing the capability and capacity of our contractor base to ensure our business strategy is fully supported. As a member of the procurement team the holder will also be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of simplified and efficient procurement processes to ensure high quality contractor procurement services.
Responsibilities
Procurement Management
• Manage the procurement process for the assigned categories to include; definition of user specification, category profiling, sourcing strategy development, and contract implementation.
• Responsible for the advertisement, delivery and award of contracts in line with business requirements and all relevant regulations and guidelines.
• Support the development of robust procurement strategies for the assigned categories, and execute annual implementation plans.
• Identify and deliver value for money, through implementation of cost savings and continuous improvement programmes from category strategies.
• Work with the business and tender team, to ensure tender requirements are agreed, and contracts are in place for their categories when needed.
• Reporting & analysis of spend & savings, as well as supplier market insights for assigned procurement categories.
• Engage in improvement projects and initiatives to support our sustainability objectives.
Contractor Development
• Responsible for implementing progressive and flexible resourcing solutions to ensure we have a growing and vibrant contractor base which can fully meet the changing and future capacity and capability needs of our business.
• Support the development of contractor and suppliers through collaboration and partnership.
• Responsible for implementing effective supplier relationship management processes to recognise and reward our best performing & progressive contractors.

• Help to create a culture of high performance in the team with high motivation levels through effective use of our performance management and reward systems.
• Simplify business processes to reduce complexity to our customers and allow our people to do their best work.

Desired Technical/Professional Competencies:
• Education and Experience: Relevant qualification in forestry, business, procurement or related discipline (ideally to HETAC level 8), with a minimum of three year’s experience. Knowledge of and awareness of procurement regulations.
• Commercial Acumen: The knowledge to manage financials to maintain profitability and value of the estate.
• Strategy / Innovation: Knowledge and experience of strategy formulation and the role of innovation in exploiting the delivery of strategies.
