Flexsource NI are currently recruiting a Civil Engineering Officer in the Belfast area, on a temporary full-time basis, with a salary of £20.66 per hour.
Responsibilities:
· Assist in delivering the annual civil engineering work programme, including planning, prioritising, scheduling and costing tasks.
· Supervise small-works civil engineering and bitumen macadam contracts, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and to the required standard.
· Provide specialist civil engineering advice to internal departments and contribute to relevant corporate working groups.
· Support the inspection, maintenance and improvement of parks pathways, roadways and hard surfaces, including DDA compliance.
· Prepare technical documentation including surveys, drawings, tender documents, payment certificates and project progress reports.
· Carry out land surveys and maintain accurate digital records, drawings and asset registers.
· Act as Resident Engineer / Clerk of Works on assigned contracts, ensuring effective site supervision and contractor performance.
· Ensure full compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations across all relevant projects.
· Contribute to the delivery of playground construction projects, including survey work, technical preparation and site supervision.
· Liaise closely with internal colleagues, external consultants and contractors to support smooth project delivery.
· Support project financial monitoring through accurate cost tracking, documentation and reporting to senior officers.
· Contribute to staff supervision, training and development when required, and comply with all council policies including health and safety, customer care and equality.
Requirements:
· Hold a third-level qualification in Civil Engineering or an equivalent relevant discipline.
· Hold a full, current UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for official business, or have access to suitable transport to meet the full requirements of the post.
· Demonstrate at least one year’s relevant workplace experience in three of the following five areas:
1. On-site supervision of contractors in a construction environment.
2. Detailed construction-phase record keeping (e.g., site measurement, surveying, inspection records).
3. Knowledge and practical understanding of CDM regulations.
4. Knowledge of method statements and risk assessments for construction works.
5. Competent use of AutoCAD, MS Office and/or MS Project.
