Curatorial E Archaeologist
CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) to recruit for a Curatorial E Archaeologist
(SO Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract, with possibility of extension.
· Pay Rate - £18.48 per/hr
· Location – DfC, HED Heritage Records Designation Titanic Boulevard
· Benefits – 37 days holiday per annum
· Hours – 37 hours per week
Responsibilities will include:
This is a temporary Curatorial E Archaeologist post within the Historic Environment Division. The post will cover a range of duties, working as part of a team, and providing support to HED staff.
Key work/projects will include:
1. Industrial Heritage Record review and pilot survey:
· Desk based GIS scoping and mapping of industrial heritage assets using a range of information sources.
· Informing the development of a Survey 123 app to record survey information.
· Undertaking preliminary site surveying/ground truthing of a number of sites identified from the desk-based exercise, alongside the external industrial heritage advisor.
2. Aircraft & Shipwreck Records:
· Reviewing the shipwreck and aircraft GIS layers to inform timescales and business cases to add records to the HED Arches Database.
3. HED GIS Layers:
· Updating/augmenting State Care GIS records following land regularisation activity
· Reviewing listed buildings GIS dataset
4. Digital Data Storage:
· Gathering information to inform options for development of storage of digital survey data
5. General:
· Other tasks related to the ongoing management and augmentation of the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland
Essential Experience/Qualifications
· Degree in Archaeology or related subject or a post graduate qualification in archaeology
· At least 1 year experience of using ArcGIS
AND
· A full current driving licence enabling the licence holder to drive vehicles in Northern Ireland and access to a form of transport.
Desired Experience/Qualifications
It would be beneficial if candidates can demonstrate 2 years post graduate experience of working in archaeology. This includes, but is not limited to:
· Advanced knowledge of using GIS to deliver a heritage led project.
· Previous experience using and developing the survey application – ‘Survey 123’.
· A good general knowledge of industrial and marine heritage assets to inform the identification of sites and augmentation of the record.
· Previous experience of archaeological excavation, including having held excavation licences.
· Experience of using the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland (HERoNI) for research purposes and working with the related catalogues and databases, and / or experience of cataloguing and archiving.
· A knowledge of the relevant legislation and policy for the recording, protection, management and conservation of archaeological sites and monuments in NI.
· Experience in working with archaeological artefacts and archives deriving from excavations.
· Field survey experience.
Relevant or Equivalent Qualifications
