General Manager – SME – Distribution/Manufacturing
Cpl Executive are exclusively retained on this search and are seeking a commercially driven General Manager to lead the performance, growth and profitability of a dynamic distribution and manufacturing business unit. This leadership role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of a small business, combining strategic planning with hands-on leadership to drive sales performance, operational excellence and long-term business growth.
Reporting to the MD, you will oversee all aspects of the business unit including sales, operations, customer service, logistics and team leadership. With full P&L and working capital responsibility, you will be accountable for delivering sustainable revenue growth, strengthening market share and maximising return on investment.
You will play a central role in shaping commercial strategy, identifying new opportunities and building strong relationships with customers, suppliers and industry partners. Working closely with the sales team, you will lead business development initiatives, expand key accounts and ensure an outstanding customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall commercial and operational performance of the business unit.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to drive profitable growth and increase market share.
- Manage full P&L responsibility, including financial performance, margin management and working capital.
- Drive sales growth through new business development, key account management and market expansion.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team across sales, operations and support functions.
- Ensure operational excellence across warehousing, manufacturing and logistics functions.
- Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and strategic partners.
- Maintain high standards of customer service, operational efficiency and health and safety.
Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience in a commercial leadership, branch management or business unit management role.
- Strong background in business development, sales leadership and commercial strategy.
- Demonstrated experience managing P&L, financial performance and operational metrics.
- A confident leader with the ability to inspire, coach and develop teams.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building and negotiation abilities.
- Experience within a distribution, manufacturing or industrial environment is advantageous.
