Our client, a leading technology platform provider is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join the team. This role will take ownership of a transitioning data and analytics platform as they move from on-premise to a modern, cloud-based environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining technical expertise with strategic influence to design, build, and optimise scalable data solutions that underpin analytics, automation, and AI initiatives.
You will work closely with senior technology leaders to shape the platform’s architecture, define best practices for ingestion and transformation, and ensure data flows seamlessly across the business. This is a unique opportunity to lead the creation of a future-ready data platform from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, build, and delivery of a new cloud data platform, including technology selection
- Oversee migration of existing ETL and orchestration processes to the cloud
- Develop frameworks for data quality, validation, and lineage
- Design scalable data ingestion pipelines and optimise reporting performance
- Contribute to long-term data strategy, including AI and predictive analytics readiness
Experience & Skills:
- 5+ years in data engineering, data warehousing, or analytics platform development
- Strong SQL Server background with ETL, modelling, and optimisation experience
- Proven experience building or migrating cloud-based data solutions (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Skilled in data pipelines, orchestration, and transformation workflows
- Familiarity with Power BI and solid understanding of data governance
Desirable:
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, dbt, Airflow, or similar tools
- Knowledge of AI/ML integration, data observability, or metadata management
- Experience in retail, finance, or SaaS data environments
