Automation Engineer (Senior / Controls Specialist)
Lead the integration, development, and validation of advanced machine control systems within a high-speed automated production environment. This role requires strong PLC expertise and hands-on involvement in system design, debugging, and cross-functional project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Integrate and debug machine control systems including servo motion and high-speed device integration
- Develop, update, and validate PLC and control software for automated production lines
- Create User, Functional, and Detailed Design Specifications
- Develop high-quality PLC and HMI code from design specifications
- Work within cross-functional, multidisciplinary project teams to deliver automation solutions
- Fault-find and troubleshoot complex automation equipment and control systems
- Maintain comprehensive documentation in line with medical device and validated environment standards
- Support project teams with technical decision-making on hardware and system architecture
- Ensure effective execution and closure of Quality System documentation
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet tight project schedules and deliverables
- Identify and implement improvements in automation systems and processes
- Provide training and mentoring to less experienced engineers
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
- 5–6 years’ experience working with automated control systems in a machine design or manufacturing environment
- Strong PLC experience, particularly with Allen Bradley ControlLogix, GuardLogix, Schneider, and safety PLCs such as Pilz
- Experience with HMI/SCADA systems such as Wonderware InTouch/ArchestrA and FactoryTalk View
- Knowledge of servo motion control, vision systems, robotics, RFID, and distributed systems is desirable
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems
- Experience working in a validated or regulated environment with strict change control processes
- Ability to plan, organize, and execute multiple tasks under tight timelines
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within cross-functional teams
- High attention to detail with strong documentation discipline
