OUR CLIENT:
Our client is aiming to create a new generation of microbiome science. It is a well-known business for its unique platform specialising in the development of human microbiome Science into Transformative Medicines and Biomarkers. The company’s current therapeutic focus is Immuno-oncology and Ulcerative Colitis with potential drug candidates proceeding into clinical trials. They have different ongoing research studies across immune-oncology of multiple cancers such as melanoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and renal cancer.

THE POSITION:
This position is for an Associate Director Level. They are looking for a motivated individual with a team focused drive and experience in vivo pharmacology and disease models. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and running of animal models for the evaluation of live bacterial medicines in the company’s portfolio. This will be supporting the lead programs in immuno-oncology and ulcerative colitis and develop new therapeutic areas such as autoimmunity and metabolic diseases. Given the novelty of this area, it will require a combination of insight into the underlying biology of host and microbiome interactions in disease, and rigour in delivering data packages for progression to development.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Leading the in vivo biology team.
· Managing, mentoring and developing team members.
· Liaising with external CROs and collaborators to support projects where necessary.
· Developing endpoint analysis, including ex vivo profiling, to better understand drug mechanism of action.
· Establishing novel models of microbiome biology relevant to human disease, with a focus on autoimmunity and immuno-oncology.
· Validating biological models through comparison to clinical data using translational biomarkers and germ-free mice with humanised microbiota.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE:
· Ability to:
o Design, execute and document rigorous testing of therapeutic agents
o Develop novel models of human biology or disease applied to a new therapeutic modality, i.e. live bacterial therapeutics
o Assess biological mechanisms in vivo models.
· Understanding of microbial biology and/or gastrointestinal microbiota
· Experience in host-microbiota interactions in human biology and disease.
· Holder of a Personal Home Office License
