Network Security Technical Advisor
Purpose: The Network Security Technical Advisor will provide senior technical consultancy and lead technical analysis within the Network Security Unit. The Network Security Technical Advisor will be a technical expert, primarily with considerable experience within the telecommunications industry, including some level of exposure to network security principles.
The Network Security Technical Advisor will require excellent technical aptitude and leadership skills, to bring to bear their technical experience to solve complex regulatory challenges concerning network security subject matter, including security of electronic communications networks and services, number independent interpersonal communications services and emerging security legislation.
The Network Security Technical Advisor will be expected to:
· Identify and define regulatory challenges concerning network security subject matter, including security of electronic communications networks and services, number independent interpersonal communications services and emerging security legislation. This will require direct engagement with other team members and other multi-disciplinary individuals across the company.
· Provide expert level technical, expertise, solutions and strategy within the security of mobile and fixed networks including but not limited to:
o Share Knowledge regarding the principles of secure electronic communications networks and services;
o Provide technical assessment of operators’ networks for compliance purposes;
o Provide technical expertise to enable to provide direction on security controls to be implemented by operators’ where required;
o Utilise technical expertise to enable the provision of detailed technical evidence of operator non-compliance of defined security measures should enforcement action be required;
o Develop an understanding of the relevant security legislative framework under which the company operates, in particular how it practically applies to the electronic communications networks and services and number independent interpersonal communications services.
o Provide strategic direction and strategic solutions for key technical work programmes within both the network security unit and internally within the company, including the integration of existing and emerging European security legislation;
o Programme and project management of key technical work items, providing project owner/manager responsibilities including management of budget, resources and schedule.
o The Network Security Technical Advisor will be expected to guide team members and other project team members in formulating requirements, advise on viability of alternative approaches in respect of network security activities.
o From time to time, represent the company with external stakeholders, such as the National Cyber Security Centre, and at international regulatory forums, including but not limited to the European Commission, BEREC and ENISA.
Essential experience/knowledge
· An Honours degree, third level qualification or significant relevant experience, in science, technology, engineering or another equivalent area/s;
· Demonstrable technical expert level experience in an electronic communications network, vendor and/or service provider with a particular focus on network operations or network security;
· A demonstratable knowledge of the electronic communications network and service sector in Ireland,
· A demonstrable knowledge of electronic communications network and service technologies and architecture with particular focus on network operations and/or network security;
· Demonstratable experience in leading and/or supervising the delivery of complex projects;
· Excellent written communications skills with experience in drafting documents for publication.
· Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to understand and express views clearly within a multi-disciplinary environment.
· A proven ability to apply analytical and critical thinking techniques to solving problems quickly and effectively.
Desirable
· A graduate third level qualification.
· Operational experience of network security within a provider of electronic communications networks and services, number independent interpersonal communications services.
