Diversity & Inclusion: TCPID on Newstalk

TheTrinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities (TCPID) aims to promote the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in Irish society. It was established as the National Institute for Intellectual Disability (NIID) in 2004 along with the NIID developed the Certificate in Contemporary Living (CCL) a two-yearfull time course for students with intellectual disabilities.

Hugo MacNeill, ex Irish rugby player and Managing Director of Ireland for Goldman Sachs, was recently on Newstalk with Pat Kenny to discuss the centre. As it stands, very few people with intellectual disabilities move on to third-level education in Ireland, an issue Cpl are passionate and pro-active about in the workplace.

'People with intellectual disabilities are more likely to be placed in day services, more likely to be unemployed (only 6% employment), increased risk of poverty, more dependence on social welfare and no expectation of third-level education', says MacNeill.

Cpl has proudly partnered with the graduate programme for years. We are also a founding member ofthe Open Doors Project, a group committed to working together to increase access to the labour market for marginalised groups by providing high-quality work experience placements, employability training, or other structured supports, to give individuals the experience, skills and confidence to find a job.
