Executive Recruitment Case Study: Matheson Director of Marketing


‚ÄčMatheson partnered with Cpl Executive Search to attract a pool of candidate for a Director of Marketing role. It was our role to recruit, retain and develop the best person on the market for this role.

The role required a strong Marketing & Sales background, effectively a strong communicator with evidence of excellent business management skills who was going to commit to growth and change in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

The personality fit was critical as there was a need to drive change at leadership level, so need for someone with strong persuasive and influential skills. Cpl Executive had proven experience working senior Marketing roles across Pharma, Healthcare, Technical companies.

Executive search for marketing leader

Cpl Executive met with the client and scoped out the role, the consultants drafted a job description and got the approval of responsibilities and requirements from the client. We provided briefing packs and a research target list to the client.

The approach was to identify senior marketing executives across the following key sectors; Legal and professional service firms, island of Ireland and UK, Financial Service firms, Ireland; top Marketing, Communication & PR Agencies Ireland, Top 10 indigenous Irish multinationals (cross-sector) and top 10 international multinationals in Ireland.

Our task was to engage with candidates in each of these areas, in parallel with a targeted online advertisement campaign.

The results:

  • We engaged interested and suitable candidates and presented weekly updates of screened candidates.

  • We then presented a shortlist of the most qualified candidates, based on our in-depth analysis and appraisals against the specification before managing the interview process which lead to the extension of an offer to the most suitable candidate.

  • We managed the offer extension, negotiation, start date and onboarding.

  • We closed off all applications with written confirmation.

  • In total 73 candidates were engaged with and 16 candidates interviewed.

  • 6 candidates were then shortlisted to interview with the client who selected the appointed candidate from this selection.
