Executive Recruitment Case Study: President of GMIT


Cpl Executive have provided a retained executive search and selection service to GMIT. We worked with GMIT to take a full briefing, compiled candidate briefing packs and advertisements (print and online) for the recruitment campaign of the President for GMIT and developed and managed international executive searches.

The President is the Chief Officer who provides dedicated and focussed leadership for GMIT at a time of significant change and development within the Irish Higher Education Sector.

Cpl Executive worked within our vast network and candidate pool to search for the perfect candidate and held a successful advertisement campaign to attract suitably proven visionary leaders who were prepared to guide GMIT to greater regional, national, and international prominence.

The candidates needed to understand the complex landscape of higher education internationally and nationally and have the capability to chart a clear path for GMIT to flourish and grow. We executed this role within the guidelines of public sector procurement and GMIT.

The Cpl Executive Team worked to engage interested and suitable candidates to progress in the process longlisted cohorts of candidates and screened these candidates using competency-based interviews.

  • The team presented a long-list of candidates reports with our recommendations to the HR team and liaison from the department and council.

  • We agreed with GMIT on shortlisting of candidates and managed the logistics of interviews.

  • Designed and delivered complex assessment centres with all executive and political groups in this unitary council.

  • Managed offer extension, relocation and start date negotiations.

  • The Cpl Executive account manager reported regularly with the leader of the council, the CE and the HR staff in the council throughout the executive recruitment campaign and submitted final recruitment reports once the campaign was completed successfully.

  • The Team managed the candidates professionally, ensured they were fully briefed on the role and recruitment process and given timely feedback.

  • This recruitment campaign worked to an 8-10 week timeline from taking the briefing to announcing the appointment.
