Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
Location: Nursing Home (various locations across Ireland) - Laois, Dublin & Tipperary
Reports to: Director of Nursing (DON)
Hours: Full-time, typically 37.5–40 hours per week
Role Summary:
The Assistant Director of Nursing supports the Director of Nursing in managing the overall delivery of high-quality nursing care in the nursing home. The ADON plays a key leadership role in clinical governance, staff management, and ensuring compliance with HIQA standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Leadership:
- Ensure the highest standards of nursing care are delivered to residents.
- Oversee clinical practices and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Support the implementation of care plans and risk assessments.
- Staff Management:
- Supervise, mentor, and support nursing and care staff.
- Assist in recruitment, induction, and ongoing training of staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and manage staff rosters.
- Quality & Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to HIQA standards and internal policies.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation.
- Resident & Family Engagement:
- Promote a person-centred approach to care.
- Act as a point of contact for residents and families regarding care concerns.
- Operational Support:
- Deputise for the Director of Nursing as required.
- Assist in budget management and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in elderly care, with at least 2 years in a senior nursing role.
- A postgraduate qualification in Nursing Management or equivalent is often desirable.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
