On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist for a Renal Clinic in Galway. This is a 12 month maternity contract leave role initially.
Role & Responsibilities:
· To manage and coordinate certain aspects of haemodialysis service,
o Monthly Bloods, analysis, and prescription specific to Anaemia and Renal Mineral Bone Disease management.
o Transplant work up and follow-up.
o Hepatitis B Vaccination programme, prescribing vaccination, monitoring annual titres and prescribing boosters where required, monitoring non responders.
· To Compile and report monthly and annual audit data for the AIS.
· Patient needs – planning implementation and evaluation of outcomes through audit.
· Nurse prescribing as per Collaborative Practice Agreement.
· The post holder will, in collaboration with allied health professionals take responsibility for nursing issues and interventions in relation to the post specified. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be expected to take responsibility for monitoring and acting on Monthly bloods, and Transplant evaluation and follow up. This requires that the post holder work autonomously in nursing practice, managing a designated patient workload. The overall responsibilities as they relate to the care concepts of the role of Clinical Specialist (National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing & Midwifery, 2001) will in this job description, be divided into clinical, audit and research, educational, professional, patient advocate as outlined below
Clinical Focus:
· Manage patient care to ensure the highest standards are maintained using evidence-based practice, care planning approach.
· Assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of monthly bloods, transplant work up and follow up, Hepatitis B vaccinations and monitoring to a haemodialysis patient grouping.
· Provide information and specialist advice to patients on haemodialysis. Selecting and developing appropriate literature and support networks that are available.
· To be involved in infection control and health promotion of the haemodialysis population.
· To be accountable for the management of defined areas and their planned care in association with the multi-disciplinary team.
· To commence transplant work-up and evaluations, liaise with the medical team regarding having suitable patients placed on the transplant pool in a timely manner.
· Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership in co-operation with other Renal Unit Staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
· Attend renal transplant multi-disciplinary team meetings.
· Support a safe environment for patients, staff, and others.
· Maintain clinical and practical skills in haemodialysis.

Skills & Experience Requirements:
· A qualification to degree level in Nursing and registered with NMBI.
· Postgraduate Diploma in Renal Nursing
· Strong planning, organisation and work prioritisation skills.
· Excellent relationship and interpersonal skills.
· Strong administrative and IT skills.
· Must be eligible to work in Ireland.
