General Manager – Utilities Maintenance (Munster Region)

Are you a strategic leader with an engineering background and strong local connections in the Munster region? Our client, a global leader in utilities and environmental services, is seeking a General Manager to oversee operations on major pharmaceutical sites across the Munster region. This is a key leadership role, backfilling a planned retirement, and offers the opportunity to manage high-performing teams delivering essential utilities maintenance services in a highly regulated pharma environment.
About the Role:
The General Manager will be responsible for the operational, commercial, and technical oversight of utility maintenance services across multiple (circa 3) pharmaceutical manufacturing sites in Cork and the wider Munster region. This includes the management of contract teams, budgetary control, and the development of strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day operations across several major pharmaceutical sites in the Munster region
- Lead and support a team of Contract Managers and site-based teams to deliver performance, compliance, and continuous improvement
- Take full ownership of contract P&L, annual budgets, and financial forecasting
- Ensure high standards of environmental, health, and safety compliance across all locations
- Strengthen and expand client relationships, ensuring ongoing satisfaction and contract retention
- Contribute to strategic business development and local networking to support growth
- Collaborate with other General Managers within the wider business unit
- Drive contract renewal and lead/support new business bids
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Engineering degree or relevant trade qualification in mechanical, electrical, building services or marine engineering
- 5–10 years' senior management experience in utilities, facilities, or pharma engineering environments
- Strong knowledge of working in regulated industries, preferably pharmaceutical or SEVESO-type environments
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including team development and operational performance management
- Experienced in business development and maintaining professional networks, ideally with ties to the Munster region
- Proficient in continuous improvement and energy efficiency practices (5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, etc.)
