The Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute (MWI) in Bermuda is inviting applications for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our Intellectual Disabilities team. 🌟 About the Role:
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll provide critical support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, offering both direct care and crisis intervention. You'll play an active role in client advocacy, supervise the nursing team, and ensure that referrals and follow-ups are effectively managed to support patient safety and well-being.
🔑 Key Responsibilities:
- Provide crisis intervention and assess clients’ physical, emotional, and mental states
- Refer to medical practitioners when necessary and coordinate ongoing care
- Act as a client advocate with external agencies, employers, and service providers
- Screen and prioritize referrals for appropriate, timely interventions
- Supervise the nursing team and serve as a preceptor for the community team
- Support follow-up care through home visits, phone calls, or office-based services
🎓 Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required with certification, if applicable, in jurisdiction of training
· 1 – 2 years post-graduate experience in a related Occupational Therapy environment, preferably within a hospital
· Local registration to practice with the Council for Allied Health Professions (CAHP) and meet all re-registration requirements
· Experience working within a psychiatric setting and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; liaison with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure quality service and continuity of care
· Flexibility and creativity to accommodate the needs of the patients, care givers and Rehabilitation Team
· Improvement of Occupational Therapy services within the service
· Diplomacy, ability to delegate and supervise assistants, aides, and students
