My client, a well-established consulting company based in Co. Limerick, is expanding, and there is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer to join the team. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to join this exciting organisation.
In order to be successful in this position, ideally you will have previous experience in the Construction or Engineering sector, excellent organisational and time keeping skills, and a good positive can-do attitude. The role will be a mix of teamwork and working on your own initiative.
Job Summary
Experience within structural design and engineering consultancy is ESSENTIAL for this role.
The candidate should have a range of project experience and be familiar with designing concrete and steel structures. Further experience with other materials is preferable. The candidate should have experience of new build and refurbishment works. The candidate should be able to take responsibility for their own work and for overseeing the production of drawings. They should be able to coordinate with other disciplines and represent the structures team in design meetings, and client meetings when required. Experience with leading projects, or elements of large projects, is preferred.
As a Senior Design Engineer you will be required to closely support the Directors in the day to day delivery of projects, and where appropriate will be responsible for the running of your own projects. You will be accountable for quality engineering input, and you will provide a valuable contribution toward the development of graduate and junior engineers, showing a willingness to develop your own technical knowledge and understanding. A significant part of your role will be in developing and strengthening relationships with Clients through the attendance of client meetings and your contribution to project interviews. As such you will need to have excellent client facing and presentational skills.
Roles & Responsibilities
● Prepare feasibility study reports to meet brief requirements in the agreed format and review with the project leader.
● Work with client & design team to assemble a design specification compliant with the employer’s requirements, agree its format and content, and monitor and review its preparation ensuring delivery by the due date.
● Agree and monitor scope of works.
● Clearly define building requirements and purpose of use with senior team members to allow detailed design.
● Carry out detailed design to B Regulations standard ensuring CDM, QA and technical review and sign off by project leader, including complex calculations and coordination issues.
● Gain an appreciation of sustainability and incorporate requirements into project delivery.
● Review and monitor the production of calculations including QA, technical reviews and sign off.
● Ensure that information for project budget costing preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines, and keep the QS informed regarding design progress through explanation of design decisions.
● Provide documentary information to assist in the preparation of tender documents, ensure that information for tender preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines, and keep the QS informed regarding design progress through explanation of design decisions.
● Coordinate project contracts documents (drawings and specifications) and reviews input from team members.
● Deal with the day to day queries from the site, ensuring that relevant information is available on time for construction activity.
● Report to the client any variance between the works constructed and the design intent.
● Project manage small / simple projects, using applicable project management tools.
● Lead the design process and encourage the rest of the team to deliver appropriate and cost effective solutions to the agreed programme.
● Follow in full the document control, archiving CDM and QA processes relevant to project work, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports and correspondence are issued, and filed in an appropriate manner, coach junior staff in their usage.
