Job Description:
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is an IT expert responsible for the design, implementation, management, and support of the organization's cloud infrastructure and any other related technological duties of the organization’s cloud computing environment. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of the cloud-based systems and services, enabling efficient operations, and supporting the company's strategic objectives.
Working in collaboration with the IT Team, they are accountable for the implementation and maintenance of the necessary Cloud IT Infrastructure that enables all applicable business functions within scope to run effectively.
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will maintain and develop suitable solutions for existing IT infrastructure and make recommendations in terms of efficiency, security, suitability, and sustainability. The role has a strong emphasis on information security.
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will support Covalen globally and will be an integral contributor, working within and promoting the Company Values –be brave, be wise, be proud and exceed.
They will be required to be flexible in their working and adaptable to a range of activities in any given day. This position will involve some travel to client and Covalen sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, creation, and provision of cloud infrastructure resources that meet organization and customer needs in automation, logging and monitoring, and security.
- Responsible on a day-to-day basis for the smooth and reliable operation and support of all components of the IT Infrastructure.
- Monitor and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, addressing performance issues, outages, and incidents promptly to minimize downtime.
- Help maintain a stable, secure, scalable, relevant, and cost-effective IT infrastructure that meets the requirements of the organization.
- Migrate legacy on-prem IT infrastructure components to the cloud.
- Design, build, manage, and operate the infrastructure and configuration of SaaS applications with a focus on automation and infrastructure.
- Deploy and maintain cloud and on-prem applications e.g., O365, VOIP telephony, etc.
- Make infrastructure recommendations to the infrastructure team.
- Validate and provide security hardening guidance of cloud-based services.
- Help develop business continuity planning and disaster recovery plans as required.
- Assess current technology architecture for vulnerabilities, weaknesses and for possible upgrades or improvement.
- Help configure physical security, disaster recovery, and data backup systems.
- Actively contribute, provide solutions and support to business wide projects
Candidate Profile :
The ideal candidate must have excellent technical abilities to successfully perform their job responsibilities. He/she will have extensive experience in all areas of networks, security, VOIP telephony, and IT infrastructure. Ideally, they will have experience of providing infrastructure solutions in a contact center environment.
They will have varying levels of experience in Network Administrator / Infrastructure Engineer roles. They will have an ability to adapt to change quickly, and to collaborate with a skilled and talented team of Infrastructure Specialists, and other technical resources in line with the strategic business objectives of the business.
Previous management experience in a technical or leadership role and demonstrating the ability to lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers and IT administrators will be an advantage.
Essential Competencies
The suitable candidate must have a deep-rooted passion for delivering success. The suitable candidate will have formidable experience and working knowledge of:
- Cloud infrastructure design and deployment e.g., Azure, PaloAlto, Juniper, Aruba, etc.)
- Configuration and management of M365, SharePoint, Intune, Sentinel, and Azure platforms.
- In-depth understanding of network and security technologies e.g., firewalls, 2FA, MFA, HTTPS, TLS, DNS, VPN, etc.
- Experience in building and managing Azure Virtual Machines (Linux and Windows)
- Working knowledge of information security standards and best practices
- Demonstrable experience in developing and delivering on scalable infrastructure solutions in line with strategic goals.
- Knowledge of systems monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Proven experience and understanding of architecture principles across infrastructure platforms, security, data, integration, and application layers.
- Experience with alerting and monitoring tools.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools/platforms.
- Understanding and experience with contact centre telephony systems e.g., Cloud PBX, soft phones, etc.
- Good time management skills.
- A desire to potentially grow and expand into wider team management, and IT managerial tasks and responsibilities.
Candidate Education and Experience:
- 3+ years in network / infrastructure engineer / desktop / IT support roles.
- Excellent communication skills in the English language, both in terms of writing presentations, and insights verbally.
- Relevant Security and/or Infrastructure related certifications will be an advantage.
- Degree in computer science, information technology, electronics or equivalent telecommunications or any related field or equivalent would be an advantage.
- Experience of working within the ITIL Framework desirable.
- Experience in project and team management an advantage.
