How You Will Achieve It
•Contribute to achievement of immediate work group goals and collaborate with other team members.
•Develop and optimise robust purification processes for the purification of proteins and vaccine products via experimental investigations at scales of 5-750 L (upstream production scale). Current technologies used include all modes of chromatography (Ion Exchange, Affinity, Size Exclusion etc.) and filtration (normal/tangential flow).
•Apply knowledge of protein structure and conformation, colloid science, chromatography (principles/methods/materials), physical chemistry of molecular interactions at interfaces, mass transfer principles, membrane & filtration science to purification process development projects.
•Collaborate closely with analytical scientists who work on the characterization of proteins and vaccines during process development studies.
•Provide technical guidance and leadership within the purification laboratory. Technical guidance includes direction of laboratory investigational studies, process and experimental design and new technology development.
•Provide technical support to Drug Substance Technical Services when required during investigations, new process introduction or change implementation in commercial manufacturing operations. Technical support may involve trouble-shooting manufacturing-scale process problems through experimental investigations at laboratory scales of operation.
•Independently plan and perform work assignments, interpret and present data.
•BEng / BSc / MSc / PhD in Biotechnology / Chemical Engineering / Biochemical Engineering or other related disciplines
•Technical fields of experience preferably to include specific knowledge and practical experience of large molecule bio processing and separation sciences gained at a minimum at BEng or BSc level or through work experience
•0-3+ years of directly relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
•Ability to perform complex data analysis and work in a team environment
•Strong working knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry principles
•Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, plan and carry out experiments independently, and work with complex instrumentation and software
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Strong analytical and computer skills
•Experience in designing and executing components of experimental programs in the laboratory.
•Familiar with problem-solving, risk analysis and statistical tools
