Job Summary:
The Electrical Engineer Consultant will provide technical expertise and oversight in the design, review, and execution of electrical systems for new Process Area CAPEX projects. The 12-month contract role includes support for small-scale site projects, troubleshooting electrical systems, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards within a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment for a reputable biopharmaceutical company in the Limerick area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems including lighting, UPS, fire alarms, access control, and building management/automation systems.
- Develop electrical design packages including layouts, single-line diagrams, cable schedules, and technical specifications.
- Manage small-to-medium scale electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Perform design reviews, participate in FAT/SAT (Factory and Site Acceptance Testing), and support equipment commissioning activities.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams including process, mechanical, automation, and validation engineering to ensure integrated system designs.
- Prepare documentation for cGMP E&I (Electrical & Instrumentation) systems, including redlining, as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and testing protocols.
- Support validation and qualification of electrical and control systems in accordance with GAMP 5 and cGMP standards.
- Supervise contractors during installation, ensuring electrical works are completed safely, to specification, and compliant with national codes and standards.
- Lead or assist with technical investigations into equipment or control system failures and contribute to CAPAs and deviation resolution.
- Conduct risk assessments, method statements, and contribute to EH&S practices to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with national electrical regulations (ET101, ETCI rules), relevant EU directives, and site-specific SOPs.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Master’s degree or chartered status desirable).
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in electrical design and engineering, preferably within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or industrial manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of LV and ELV systems, control panels, and power distribution networks.
- Familiarity with GMP/cGMP, ISPE, GAMP 5, and other relevant industry guidelines.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar electrical design tools; knowledge of BIM/Revit is a plus.
- Experience with HVAC, BMS, and cleanroom systems integration is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety, including ATEX, arc flash analysis, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, with experience interfacing with project managers, QA, contractors, and regulators.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland and flexibility to work onsite as needed.
