External Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement Officer
I am currently seeking an External Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement Officer based for our client, a government body. The candidate will join the communication and public relation teams to assist in implementing its communications strategy.
This is a hybrid position, based in Mayo. It is a 12 month contract with two possible extensions of 12 months. (Duration of 36 months)
- Monitor political and legislative developments, providing timely analysis and recommendations to organisational leadership.
- Build on existing work to develop a national advocacy/voice group to engage in public affairs, media relations, and policy consultations. Develop, implement, and launch a new advocate/ambassador programme.
- Co-ordinate site visits and events to promote political engagement at local and national levels.
- Build and maintain relationships with politicians, stakeholders, and interest groups.
- Support in drafting media briefings, including, JOC and PAC prepping, position papers, and responses to public consultations, Oireachtas queries, and policy proposals.
- Support the activation of impactful campaigns that highlight key road safety issues and engage the public.
- Support the distillation of work and research to political and stakeholder representatives, including management of regular stakeholder meetings and agreed actions.
- Managing the quarterly newsletter to political representatives.
- Assist in procurement and management of public relations contract.
- Support the implementation of a public affairs strategy to influence policy discussions and legislative developments related to road safety.
- Strategic corporate communications for services such as driving test, National car testing service and national driver licence service.
- Support the organisation’s press office function as required.
- Support in stakeholder mapping and engagement.
- Support with FOI and PQs and political engagement.
- Measure and report on external affairs effectiveness, working closely with RSA colleagues and agencies, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Support corporate communications and public affairs team on ministerial priorities as the strategy evolves.
Essential requirements
- Background in journalism or politics
- Excellent communication (written & oral) and interpersonal skills.

- Understanding of media and political landscapes.
- Works well as part of a team but can work on own initiative also
- Excellent management and leadership skills
- Strong organisational, coordination, and project management abilities.
