Our client, a major player in the financial industry, are seeking an IT consultant, who are currently working in Tec roles – Software Dev , Testing, QA, Dev Ops, Tech BA, Cyber & Info Sec, any tech area – who want to move into a more consultative / consulting type role.
This team work with all the large Tech companies, start-ups and mid sized Tech firms who are availing of R&D grants and tax breaks – this Innovation Incentives team has tax and finance experts and also tech experts on their team.
Key elements of this role:
- First rate communication skills – attending regular client meetings (many are face to face)
- Strong report writing skills (team produce documents backing up the Technology and R&D work carried out, these docs reviewed by University professors on behalf of the Irish Govt. tax dept.)
- Must be curious and have a good level of understanding of a wide variety of Tech areas (like reading about new Tech developments)
EY operate a hybrid working model – only 1 day required in the office per week but will be regular client site visits also, great training on offer and a real career path in this team for the right person.

Your role will involve being responsible for critically analysing the scientific and technological aspects of a client’s R&D IT/Technology project. You also will play an active role in detailed technical client discussions and creation of technical R&D deliverables for our clients. Responsibilities:
The successful candidate’s main responsibility will be to not only work very closely with the senior technical consultants on the team, but also clients’ senior engineering/technology and scientific personnel from across a range of industry sectors. Leveraging from their technical knowledge and experience, the successful candidate will be responsible for analysing technical aspects of clients’ projects, assisting in determining whether those projects are eligible for R&D tax relief, and documenting why those projects are qualifying R&D projects from a technical perspective. The successful candidate’s main responsibilities will include:
• Working with senior team members to conduct detailed technical interviews with the clients’ senior technical and engineering staff, to develop an understanding of the technical characteristics of the projects undertaken.
• Communicating directly with clients including scheduling technical interviews, issuing deliverables and answering queries.
• Creating detailed technical project reports describing the technological objectives, advancements and uncertainties of clients’ projects to support their R&D claim.
• Analysing, understanding and interpreting complex technical information provided by clients, to draw appropriate conclusions.
• Assisting in the provision of high quality advice and solutions to clients, ensuring management of risk and reputation.
• Ability to provide practical approaches and solutions to situations and apply critical thinking to ensure the delivery of high quality technical work products.
• Anticipating and identifying risks that require escalation and subsequently escalating these risks to more senior staff, as appropriate.
• Supporting the business in winning new clients through the preparation of proposal documents.
• Performing engagement management tasks and PMO tasks.
• Working as an effective member of a project team, exhibiting excellent communication skills and being able to work co-operatively and create synergies with other team members of different skill sets.
• Supporting in the successful delivery of technically complex and demanding consulting projects, ensuring technical excellence and practical/business driven approach taken.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science/Applications/Information Systems, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Advanced Mathematics, Big Data Analytics or a related discipline (2.1 or higher).
• Master’s Degree or PhD in a relevant discipline would be an advantage.
• Previous R&D tax knowledge is NOT required for this role although would be highly advantageous.
• Experience working in a field of science or technology (again NOT required for this role) would be highly advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrate ability to quickly assimilate new knowledge.
• A track record in creating or reviewing technical documentation and have a sound grasp of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Demonstrate good knowledge of their field of science or technology, and demonstrate an understanding of the commercial/technical issues faced in this field.
• Interviewing and presenting skills.
• Team player.
• An interest in other fields of science/technology would also represent an advantage
• Knowledge of or experience working with IT technologies and concepts such as, Cloud Computing, Network Security, Computer Networking, Database Engineering, Cybersecurity/Cryptography, Big Data, modelling and computational methods, programming languages (such as .NET, JSON, SQL, Python, Java, Perl, C++, C#, JavaScript, Objective-C, Ruby, C, Haskell, R, Scala, GoLang, etc)., Artificial Intelligence, Mathematical Techniques and Pattern Recognition.

• Ability to identify logical or innovative solutions to complex or unusual problems
