Maintenance Technician – Biotech Manufacturing | Sligo (Shift Role)

A rapidly expanding biotech and animal health manufacturing facility in Sligo town is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join its engineering team. This is a hands-on, critical role supporting the reliability, safety, and performance of plant equipment, utilities, and production systems in a GMP environment. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will ensure equipment operates at optimal levels while maintaining full compliance with regulatory standards.
Shift & Premiums
- 2-cycle shift:
- Week 1: 06:00–14:30
- Week 2: 14:00–22:30
- Shift premium: 20%
- On-call premium: €350
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain plant machinery, utilities, equipment, and facilities to required operational and GMP standards.
- Perform installation, emergency, corrective, and preventive maintenance with minimal supervision.
- Complete routine PMs and associated documentation within required timelines; update the CMMS (eMaint experience a plus).
- Coordinate and oversee on-site maintenance contractors and equipment vendors, including issuing and controlling permits to work.
- Collaborate with Operations and Quality teams to troubleshoot issues and implement timely engineering solutions.
- Conduct root cause analysis and utilise structured problem-solving tools for breakdowns.
- Support the specification, installation, commissioning, and testing of new or recommissioned equipment/utilities; participate in FATs.
- Provide engineering input into deviations, CAPAs, and change controls.
- Participate in internal audits and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Manage spare parts inventory and ensure appropriate stock levels.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and reliability enhancement projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant trade qualification in an engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a GMP manufacturing environment.
- Strong hands-on maintenance experience across:
- Chemical, mechanical/HVAC systems
- Pneumatic & hydraulic systems
- Electrical power systems
- Control systems & building management systems
- Experience maintaining utilities, facilities, and production/process equipment.
- Strong technical aptitude and proficiency in Microsoft applications.
- Familiarity with predictive maintenance techniques.
- Experience using CMMS systems (eMaint advantage).
- Experience in pharmaceutical or tablet manufacturing desirable.
- Knowledge of black and clean utilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings; AutoCAD experience advantageous.
- Experience with equipment validation is a plus.
