CPL Recruitment is delighted to be working in partnership with our client for a Power Systems Planning Engineer on a permanent full-time basis, based in Belfast.
Salary – up to £46,000 per year.

The role:
With a full copy of the Job Spec available on request, the Power Systems Planning Engineer will:
- Report directly to the Head of Networks and carry out technical analysis of how the electricity system is performing and help develop the best solutions for future grid connections and network upgrades.
- Support Northern Ireland’s long‑term energy needs by ensuring the network is planned in a coordinated, efficient, and cost‑effective way.
- You will also play an important role in producing key statutory documents that give customers and electricity users clear, reliable information about the system.
The person:
- University degree in Engineering, or other relevant equivalent degree
- 2 years min. experience relevant post graduate experience.
- An ambition to develop experience in power systems studies, including supporting the development of a transmission network to deliver net zero emissions.
- Experience in Python and tools such as PSSE and PowerFactory a distinct advantage.
- Have knowledge of power system analysis methods such as steady state load flow, voltage and short circuit analysis.
- An ability to solve complex problems in a fast collaborative environment, demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work well within a team with flexibility in approach, including a strong ability to work under own initiative and to tight deadlines.
- Encompass strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on high quality report writing and ability to communicate technical matters clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
