Overview
Our Client is seeking an experienced Client Technical Coordinator on a contract basis to lead the end-to-end design of a new laboratory facility. The ideal candidate will have direct experience managing laboratory design projects, coordinating with architect-led multidisciplinary design teams. Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and documentation skills are essential.
Scope of Service
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead the laboratory design process, planning, coordination, and execution of the laboratory design.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk logs.
- Ensure alignment between design objectives, operational requirements, and regulatory/industry standards.
- Manage the laboratory design process alongside the lead architect, ensuring all documentation, drawings, and supporting materials are coordinated, submitted on time, and tracked through to approval.
2. Laboratory Design Management
- Work closely with the architect-led design team (inclusive of laboratory planners), and the scientific/veterinary specialists to define functional and technical requirements.
- Review and challenge design proposals to ensure suitability, compliance, and efficiency.
- Coordinate design iterations, design reviews, and approvals with key stakeholders.
- Ensure design decisions incorporate safety, workflow, equipment, infrastructure, and compliance considerations.
3. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Act as the primary point of contact on behalf of internal stakeholders and senior leadership, with the architect-led design team.
- Run project steering meetings, workshops, and coordination sessions.
- Translate technical information into clear, actionable updates for non-technical stakeholders.
- Manage expectations, resolve conflicts, and maintain strong collaborative relationships.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Produce and maintain all project documentation, including:
- Meeting notes and action logs
- Change control records
- Design documentation trackers
- Risk, issue, and decision registers
- Progress reports to leadership
- Ensure robust record-keeping and project governance throughout the contract.
Required Experience & Skills
Experience
- Proven track record delivering end-to-end laboratory projects (design).
- Experience working with architect-led design teams (inclusive of lab designers, M&E consultants).
- Strong understanding of laboratory environments, equipment, workflows, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Experience with construction project management, site supervision, and commissioning.
- Experience/ suitable qualifications in a laboratory setting would be an advantage.
Skills
- Excellent project management capability across planning, execution, and control.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear updates and documentation.
- Confidence facilitating meetings, workshops, and stakeholder discussions.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing project needs.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Asana).
