Resident Engineer, Community Hospital Projects
Location: Letterkenny, Co. Donegal
Salary: €60,000 per annum with annual increments, 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays
Position Summary
On behalf of our client in the Public Sector, we are inviting applications for the position of Resident Engineer (Technical Services Officer, Senior Assistant Grade) to support the delivery of the new Letterkenny Community Hospital – a 110-bed, state-of-the-art healthcare facility currently under construction in Co. Donegal, with additional projects thereafter.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key on-site role in ensuring a major capital healthcare project is delivered to the highest standards of quality, compliance, and patient-centred design.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the client on-site technical representative, ensuring works comply with approved designs, specifications, and healthcare standards.
- Monitor quality of construction and materials, ensuring adherence to current building regulations, Technical Guidance Documents, and infection prevention protocols.
- Attend and contribute to site meetings; maintain comprehensive site records and progress reports.
- Liaise with contractors, design consultants, and project management teams.
- Oversee snagging, testing and commissioning, and assist in handover and close-out stages.
- Support health & safety oversight in collaboration with PSDP/PSCS roles.
Essential Requirements
- Honours Level 8 degree (NFQ Level 8) in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering, Architecture, or other relevant technical discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant post-qualification experience, ideally with exposure to capital construction or public sector projects.
- Strong understanding of construction standards, technical detailing, and statutory compliance.
- Excellent communication, reporting and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic project management tools.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital construction environment.
- Familiarity with Public Works Contracts (PWC) and GCCC procurement.
- Knowledge of Healthcare Technical Guidance Documents, HTMs, or other similar construction standards.
Terms and Benefits
- Starting salary: €60,000 per annum (first point on Technical Services Officer scale). Candidates with prior public sector service may be appointed at a higher point subject to service verification.
