Senior Product Engineer
Based in Galway, the Senior Product Engineer will play a key role in the development, integration, and validation of electrical systems for medical devices. This onsite, 12-month contract offers the opportunity to work across global teams and drive product development from design to verification.
Responsibilities
- Translate system-level requirements into electrical-based product requirements.
- Lead DFMEA development and integrate electrical design into risk management processes.
- Review electrical designs, outputs, and characterization data.
- Ensure seamless integration of electrical hardware and firmware.
- Apply best practices in PCBA design, FPGA, motor control, and custom battery development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional design teams (systems, firmware, mechanical) to troubleshoot and verify electrical systems.
- Use DFSS tools to analyze and optimize product performance.
- Validate custom test environments including hardware, software, and methods.
- Perform and document verification testing against electrical product requirements.
- Work with certified test houses to meet global regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 14971, IEC 60601).
- Support design transfer activities to manufacturing and product release teams.
- Act as the lead electronics expert and liaison for cross-functional partners.
- Adhere to all quality policies, procedures, and compliance standards.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, including international collaboration and occasional global travel.
Requirements
Must Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred).
- 4+ years’ experience in electrical product development within a regulated medical device environment.
- Strong understanding of IEC 60601, ISO 14971, EMI/EMC, and safety compliance standards.
- Hands-on experience designing and debugging analog/digital circuitry, motor control, and custom battery systems.
- Experience in electromechanical medical devices and hardware/firmware integration.
Nice to Have:
- Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- Experience with verification and validation of medical devices.
- Skilled in automated test bench development and test script/method validation.
- Strong background in hardware-firmware integration.
